Honestly, I doubt it very much. The /usr directory contains applications that are usually installed by regular users. These applications will depend on files within the /usr directory that will fail if it cannot locate them.

If it is possible then it will require a lot more modification to the core files and obviously modifying the file structure of the OS

I hope this helps, and if you do find a way to do it I am sure people here and I would like to know.

I love the way nothing goes away on the net. This worked a treat for me when moving /home to a new drive. A better man would work out what it all means but for things I do once every five years Linux-by-numbers works fine.

Thanks, soddengecko… I just installed a 120GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD drive as the boot drive, but didn’t want the /home folder on it to cut down on the writes. This was the perfect article for it, and I thank you for it!
